'All love and thanks to God!', said Prince on the back of this album's credits. Whether 'God' or something else, Prince's twisted funk music always touched anyone's g-spot, some being irritated by endless ecclecticism of his or simply for it is truly fascinating - the effect 'Lovesexy' has is a fair share of orgasmic chills; bizzare 'continuous sequence' in which funk, exoticism and of course - sex - make its powerful mad drive; of course if it were stripped down to basics, who knows - 'Lovesexy' could have ended up as one of Prince's later-on failures ('Graffiti Bridge' onwards...); but despite such inappropriate, later cuts (change of style, name, religious beliefs, too much everything over the top, etc) Prince remains as careful a rock-person.
'Lovesexy' is probably one of his finest moments if not the finest alone - rich, sometimes classical arrangements ('I Wish You Heaven', beautiful 'Anna-Stesia'), screaming with computer and human percussion ('I No', 'Alphabet St.', phenomenal 'Dance On'), Hendrix-esque guitars ('Lovesexy', 'Glam Slam' which rivals the guitar in brutal keyboard runs at the end) or perverse tape-looping, it is quite questionable if 'God' offers such pleasures up there - music to feel truly naked by (hence the cover)... provocative and insane.
