| No Picture Sleeve. Tracklisting: A In My House (5:00) B In My House (Instrumental) (7:16) I don't think the average listener of this single knows it was produced by Rick James. And if they did I don't think it would matter anyway. But I was a bit surprised when I found out it was because the track doesn't really scream 'I was produced by Rick James!'. I had heard it maybe once or twice back in '85/'86 on Z104 (the local Top 40 station) and it made no dents in my day-to-day affairs. But long about two years ago (one cold Sunday night in Green Bay, WI) I was checking out an '80s flashback type radio show and I heard it again. At that point I set out to find this beautiful piece of vocal delightfulness. This is a very beautiful vocal track that really deserves accolades for the stunning vocal harmonies delivered by the Mary Jane Girls. The sin here is that this is NOT universally remembered like so much of the lower-class '80s schwag. A good example is all that R.E.M. crap and the armloads of Paula Abdul wanna-be stuff that the '80s shows make us remember so much by continually pounding down our throats while great tunes like this one are forgotten. It was a minor miracle that this one was played that night because I believe it was one of the only songs that made me say 'Wow! I haven't heard that one in years!'. Everything else was the same old recycled hits you hear all the time supposedly representing the '80s. There were indeed some really good songs produced in the '80s. This is one of them. The main vocal melody sticks to you like glue! And it IS really VERY beautiful. I love you Mary Jane Girls...jazzliscious - Mar-04 |
