| Central Line was better known for productions from their 1981 LP "Breaking Point" (or the simply self-titled "Central Line" which was the name for the US release of this album). This record contained such Larry Levan favorites as "Walking into Sunshine" of which he did a remix on the 12" version of this song. "Breaking Point" was a classic example of the early 80s Disco sound popular in London and New York at the time (see labels like Sutra, Salsoul and Prelude just to name a few) heavy on synths, groove and melody. The title track for this single "Time for Some Fun" is exactly what you would expect from a Central Line recording IE up-beat, Electro influenced Disco-Pop. However, the B-Side contains the track "Conviction" which is a deeper instrumental approach to this sound. This song relies more on layered synth hooks, drum breakdowns and warm pads to drive the tune rather than a standard pop arrangement (intro, verse, chorus, refrain, etc) and ends up sounding more like true "Electro". Definitely worth a listen for fans of the Disco/ Italo sound of this era. |
