Riccardo Rinaldi si avvicina al mondo della musica sul finire degli anni ’70 con la nascita del movimento New wave. Con l’avvento della tecnologia e soprattutto dei computer negli anni 80 entra di prepotenza nella scena musicale di Bologna collaborando con molteplici artisti e bands in veste di musicista/produttore/tecnico del suono. Con gli anni ’90 prende lo pseudonimo di Ohm Guru ed inizia a produrre con questo nome album omonimi e artisti come DJ Rodriguez, Sud Sound System, Neffa, Bossa Nostra, Gazzarra, Colle Der Fomento e diventa un collaboratore fisso della Irma Records. Con il gruppo di cui è membro, Aeroplanitaliani, insieme a Alessio Bertallot e Roberto Vernetti, partecipa anche ad un Festival di Sanremo dove vince un premio della critica con il brano Zitti, Zitti. Lo stesso brano, remixato da Luca LTJ Trevisi, diventa un classico dell’Acid Jazz grazie a Gilles Peterson che lo elegge come uno dei suoi brani preferiti del periodo. In quegli anni le sue produzioni fanno il giro del mondo ed alcuni diventano dei veri e propri classici del mondo elettronico/downtempo come Moon Beat ( LTJ Xperience), Montedivenere ( Ohm Guru) e soprattutto Ocean Beach (Black Mighty Orchestra). Nel 2002 fonda insieme a Ninfa una sua compagnia a nome One Eyed Fish che si occupa di produzioni, publishing, mastering e management. L’etichetta, discograficamente affiliata sempre a Irma Records, dopo una serie di album di nuovi artisti, pubblica ora il suo terzo album dal titolo Cinema. Il suono elettronico miscelato con l’acustico che aveva caratterizzato il precedente ‘Echo’ qui viene ancor più accentuato con puntate verso l’Indi-rock. La voce predominante è quella di Caterina Soldati (Agrado), giovane cantante di Bologna e voce ufficiale del live di Ohm Guru, che interpreta la maggioranza dei brani compresa la cover delle Banderas ‘This is your life’. Tra gli altri ospiti vocali troviamo Ninfa in due brani, Georgeanne Kalweit ( ex Delta V), il misterioso Vagina Hendrix, Ask e T Mike.

Riccardo Rinaldi aka Ohm Guru started to get involved with the music world in the late 70’s, attracted by the New Wave movement. With the technologic revolution and the arrival of computers in music production during the 80’s, Riccardo debuted as musician/producer/sound engineer with several Bologna based bands. His Ohm Guru moniker was launched in the 90’s, when he began to produce his own music and co-produce another seminal Irma artists: DJ Rodriguez, Bossa Nostra, Gazzara, Colle Der Fomento, as well as other important Italian acts like Neffa and Sud Sound System. At the time he was also a member of Aeroplanitaliani, together with Alessio Bertallot and Roberto Vernetti, winners of the critics award at the 1992 Sanremo Festival with the song ‘Zitti Zitti’. The same tune, remixed by Luca LTJ Trevisi, became an Acid Jazz classic thanks to Gilles Peterson, who pushed it as one of his favourite tunes in those days. Other Ohm Guru productions from that period reached ‘classic’ status on the electronic/downtempo scene: ‘Moon Beat’ by LTJ Xperience, ‘Montedivenere’ under his own name and, above all, ‘Ocean Beach’ by Black Mighty Orchestra. In 2002 he founded, together with Ninfa, his own music company One Eyed Fish, to take care of production, publishing, mastering and management. The label by the same name, affiliated to Irma, after having launched a bunch of talented new artists, now releases Ohm Guru’s long awaited third solo album, titled ‘Cinema’. The balance of electronic and acoustic sounds which characterized the previous album ‘Echo’, on ‘Cinema’ is even more emphasized, with excursions towards Indie Rock territories. Main featured vocalist on the album is Caterina Soldati (aka Agrado), young singer from Bologna and member of Ohm Guru’s live line-up. She’s the one who sings on the Banderas cover ‘This Is Your Life’. Other guests are Ninfa on two tracks, Georgeanne Kalweit (former Delta V lead singer), the mysterious Vagina Hendrix, Ask and T Mike. |
